You will learn how to provide a comprehensive treatment from start to finish. This includes assessing your client and their needs, devising a treatment plan and delivering a safe and effective treatment. You will learn all the appropriate anatomy and physiology and potential soft tissue dysfunctions. You will be able to recognise when to refer clients to another health care practitioner and how to conduct your practice in a professional manner. You will need to complete five units, these are:

Unit 1 Anatomy and Physiology for Sports Massage
Unit 1 covers all the anatomy and physiology you will need to be a competent sports massage therapist.

Unit 2 Principles of Health and Fitness
Unit 2 gives you a basic understanding of health and fitness and how it applies to sports massage.

Unit 3 The Principles of Soft Tissue Dysfunction
Unit 3 looks at the basics of soft tissue dysfunction and how it affects the body, enabling you to create a comprehensive treatment plan.

Unit 4 Professional Practice in Sports Massage
Unit 4 covers professional codes of conduct, legal requirements and interacting with other health care practitioner.

Unit 5 Sports Massage Treatments
Unit 5 covers the practical side of massage; the techniques, consultation skills and putting it all together, thus enabling you to deliver an effective treatment and ongoing support for your client.

Along with the qualification and knowledge, you will benefit from over 35 years of industry experience, giving you additional information not found in text books. This will help you to build your business and help you to develop into a safe and effective practitioner.

The course is assessed in a range of ways; short online quizzes and tasks, worksheets, a portfolio of evidence, three practical assessments and a multiple choice theory assessment.

You will be clearly guided through the assessment process at the beginning of your course and we will be here to help and support you all the way through your course, ensuring you pass all assessments easily.

Delivery is mainly based online with a wide range of tutorials, live seminars, videos and additional information, along with an Active IQ manual. You will have full access to highly qualified, experienced and motivated tutors, who are still in practice, meaning they have up to date clinical knowledge.

Alongside the online e-learning platform you will have four workshop days, these will help to refine and hone your skills, allow guided practice, as well as a chance to ask face to face questions. The workshops are delivered in small groups allowing learners plenty of contact time with tutors. Although there are certain set dates to work to, much of your study time is flexible meaning you can work as and when it suits you. (Although you may not find your tutors awake at 4.00 am!)

Where to Next?
Once you have completed Level 3, you are ready to start practising your new found skills. You will be in a position to get a job or start a business in the industry. You can continue adding to your knowledge moving onto the Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage, which gives you a wider variety of techniques to work with, a greater injury knowledge as well as better assessing skills, making you a more well rounded practitioner and able to compete within the industry.

As the course is online and you will have to carry out practical work at home. For this you will need to get yourself a massage couch, these cost anything from £60 to £400. Good second hand ones can be found. Towels, pillows and massage lotion are essential and are generally inexpensive.
