Starting and running a sports massage business.

I started thinking about questions I’m asked when I teach and I have seen a lot of the same ones asked on Facebook groups. One of the main topics discussed were various elements about starting and running a massage business. In this case specifically a sports massage business.

What to do first?

This led me to write a Facebook post which allowed me to touch on one element of starting and running a business, what you do first. Which in turn has led me to expanding it into a blog. I plan to write more Facebook posts slowly working my way through the topic and some I will expand into further blogs.

Back to the point, when you first start a business whether it’s sports massage or something else it can all be a bit daunting. This leads to your head swimming with ideas and thoughts. The best way to deal with this is brainstorm it. I prefer working on paper, I’m a bit old fashioned like that, but you can do it however you prefer. It’s important you do it your way, you’re always more productive.

Get the idea on paper.

To start with all you are doing is getting the basic information out, emptying your head and allowing yourself space to think. You can then work from there and expand on ideas. I decided the best way to demonstrate this is to do it, so I did. The image below is what I created when I brainstormed starting and running a massage business.

An original brainstorm for starting and running a massage business

I’m no expert.

I’m no expert on this but I have started several successful businesses over the years and have had guidance from various services such as Business Wales and this is pretty much where we always start. Get the idea out first. There are loads of experts out there. Often there is a local scheme like Business Wales that will help you for free. So do some research and see what’s available in your area.

Make it specific to your idea.

Feel free to use my original brainstorm to help you get started with yours. Just make it specific to you and your idea. There will be more Facebook posts and blogs coming based around starting and running a massage business. Along with pointers towards useful information about sports massage, business, education and more. I hope you have found this blog informative and good luck with your new career.
